It's no secret that web development is male dominated, and that software development itself has been male dominated for the past 4 decades. Former coding bootcamp student and now Tabcorp coder Tanya Butenko is eager to break down the barriers to more female participation. She'll be running a top-of-the-pipeline program on the 9th of July, bringing in a group of other brilliant women to teach women how to code in JavaScript.
There'll be JavaScript workshops for beginners and node.JS for those who are more experienced. It'll have two workshops with breaks and chatting before and after.
AGENDA OF THE DAY:
9:30 - 10:00 Registration
10:00 - 10:30 Intro + Group formation
10:30 - 12:00 Coding workshop with help of mentors
12:00 - 12:45 Lunch
12:45 - 2:45 Coding workshop with help of mentors
2:45 - 3:00 Tea time
3:00 - 3:20 Wrap up, next steps
Workshop material will be from codeschool.io. With just 120 places, it's already oversubscribed. There is currently a one to five mentor to student ratio.
The Node School event will be hosted at Coder Academy with sponsorship partners Women Who Code Sydney, Tabcorp, Hired, Prismatik and Code School, who are we eager to join forces with. Node School was founded in 2013 and is an annual event that is hosted by volunteers around the world.
